ABOUT US
The Marginalized Women Foundation (MWF) is a marginalized-led, young women-led, organization advancing the dignity, opportunity, and equity of marginalized Somali women in Somalia and Kenya. Founded and governed by individuals with lived experience of displacement, refugeehood, and systemic exclusion, MWF brings community-driven leadership to addressing long-standing inequalities affecting Somali women.
MWF works to dismantle structural barriers that limit women’s participation in economic, social, and civic life—particularly barriers rooted in historical marginalization, gender inequality, and protracted crises. Through an integrated, equity-driven approach, MWF promotes economic empowerment, inclusive education, and health equity, while strengthening women’s leadership and agency to drive sustainable community development.
MWF’s cross-border team of former refugees, diaspora professionals, youth leaders, and community-based members in Somalia and Kenya ensures programs are locally grounded, culturally responsive, and informed by global best practices. The organization collaborates with communities, civil society actors, and diaspora networks to deliver community-owned, sustainable solutions that advance inclusion and long-term resilience.
