Economic Empowerment

The Challenge

Marginalized Somali women and girls face widespread economic exclusion. Many are confined to informal and low-paid domestic work, where they experience exploitation, violence, and discrimination without legal protection. Despite a strong agricultural heritage rooted in the fertile Jubba and Shabelle river valleys, climate change, drought, land grabbing, and forced displacement have stripped families of their livelihoods, pushing many into poverty and internal displacement.

Our Approach

We strengthen women’s economic independence by restoring access to livelihoods, skills, and income-generating opportunities that are safe, dignified, and sustainable.

What We Do

  • Support women’s entrepreneurship and small businesses

  • Promote climate-resilient livelihoods and farming initiatives

  • Provide financial literacy and economic skills training

  • Advocate for labor rights and protections for domestic workers

Who We Serve

Marginalized Somali women and girls, including internally displaced women and those engaged in informal labor.
